GOTRAX Asks: How Long Does The Battery Last on An Electric Scooter?

It is the ultimate question people have about their electric scooters how long will the battery last? That often comes through as either asking for the range or the lifespan of the battery. Luckily, GOTRAX is here to answer your questions. We will break down our different types, how they work, and how long they last, both in terms of range as well as how long you can expect the battery to last. Keep in mind, your battery's lifespan can be altered greatly with how well or how poorly you take care of your electric scooter.

HOW FAR CAN I GO?

This will vary from scooter to scooter but you should first look at the size of your battery. Batteries are measured in voltage and amps. Basically, the voltage is the amount of electrical potential within the battery or pressure. The higher voltage on the battery will typically mean an increase in acceleration since the battery is capable of storing more energy than a smaller one. Next, is amps or amp hours which measure the amount of electrical charge that can be supplied within an hour. Now we have been over electrical charges and potentials but now lets see how that equates to range.

In order to get an accurate readout on range you need to calculate voltage multiplied by the amp hours. This will provide you with your watt hours. The higher the watt hours the longer the range. However, it is common that when you have higher amps you can power a higher voltage.

Determining, how long the lifespan of your battery is, largely comes down to where you purchase your electric scooter and how well you take care of your battery.

The first thing is to check for certification for said battery. GOTRAX ensures that each of our products come with a UL Certification. Underwriter Laboratories has been around for over a century and is one of the oldest safety certification companies in the world. Now that you've gotten the proper battery you still must take care of it with due diligence. The most important thing is to avoid extreme temperatures and moisture. Next, you want to store it properly when you aren't using it to avoid environmental wear and tear. Finally, keep the battery charged between 25-85%. This helps avoid overcharging and a full discharge both of which can decrease the lifespan of your battery. Through regular use and safe storage you can get a lot out of your battery before it needs to be replaced. Just don't forget to wear your helmet on all the rides to come.
